Blue Angel is a photographic installation exploring the gap between self projection and actual self. The woman depicted (Blue Angel) has an unhealthy relationship with her own image. Seeking perfection, she engages in the process of beautification to discover her own essence in the mirror’s reflection. The installation documents her anguish, allowing the viewer to witness both her frustration and self-seduction. The work is composed of six, life-size photographs that have been cropped and split over large vertical light boxes. The boxes are made of long plexiglass sheets, with a thin metal box and neon bulb fastened to the top and bottom. The photographs are illuminated when light is conducted through the totally enclosed boxes.
