Starting today the monster is Alive and Kicking

“Occupy North,” conceived during “The Arctic Circle” art residency in October 2015, is a bold artistic initiative responding to the political tensions surrounding Arctic territorial claims. In two transformative phases, the project challenges traditional notions of nationhood and territory.

The symbolic act of planting a flag physically stakes a claim in
the Arctic, challenging geopolitical norms. This performative gesture is complemented by a strategic legal pursuit through the United Nations and the Norwegian government, thrusting the project beyond art into international governance.

Documented through photography, video, and visual artifacts, the legacy of “Occupy North” “Occupy North” aims
to reshape narratives, question power structures, and prompt
conversations about the environmental impact of political decisions.

There is something primordially beautiful about building something with your own hands. Yesterday I had the pleasure of experiencing that beauty watching Wind Playground’s sails come together before my eyes.

<a href=”http://www.windplayground.com/?attachment_id=504″ rel=”attachment wp-att-504″><img src=”http://www.windplayground.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/wpgred073-e1355483792308.jpg” alt=”wpgred073″ width=”600″ height=”346″ /></a>

Knowing the ins and outs of every single piece and material through daily touch and the daily physical engagement with your work is a powerful process; cathartic down to the laying of the double-side tape, to the panel assembling against the seam line or the cutting circles for the structural reinforcement (which kind of turns the left over material into some kind of Christmas decoration)

<a href=”http://www.windplayground.com/?attachment_id=497″ rel=”attachment wp-att-497″><img src=”http://www.windplayground.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/wpgred043-e1355484060141.jpg” alt=”wpgred043″ width=”295″ height=”197″ /></a>      <a href=”http://www.windplayground.com/?attachment_id=496″ rel=”attachment wp-att-496″><img src=”http://www.windplayground.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/wpgred042-e1355484084385.jpg” alt=”wpgred042″ width=”295″ height=”197″ /></a>

An evolution as physical as cerebral.

I have spent months calculating, designing and painfully overthinking how every peace of this monster fits together. After assembling this first section, seeing how every thing fits together to the millimeter and how the sails began to take their shape, I know it works.
Every single obsessive detail worked on over and over, works.
All the crazy equations on my wall, the stubborn decision of combining 2 materials together to create a dynamic texture, worked (even if it made every thing 3 times harder and time consuming).
It works, it is alive, kicking and growing !

Now looking at it all I wonder If maybe I was guided by some sort of ultra terrain power, abducted by aliens or struck by a rare case of cosmic neutrino lightning, because this is more beautiful and amazing that I could ever imagine.
It feels beyond me, yet I have diligently built every single piece of it with my own hands through a year worth of work.

I like to think I was in my <em><a href=”http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/australian-aborigine-dream-beliefs/”>Dream Sate</a></em> therefore every thing was possible.
I hope this will remind us all that our body and mind can learn and do anything we want.

Time to go back to work

Have a good day
