Portraid of a Red Couch

Red Couch began as a self-portrait experiment, focused on capturing the moods and emotions I experienced day to day. A camera was set up facing the centerpiece of my living room – a large, plush red couch. Each day, I would take a photograph of myself seated on the couch. As I did not live alone, the project began to take on a life of it’s own and eventually, I began shooting whatever happened to be occurring on the couch each day. The couch became a living character, witnessing all and silently testifying to what had transpired. It was no longer the story of my self-identity, but the story of the couch itself – stubborn, reliable, trustworthy and immutable. It became a storyteller, acting as the silent backdrop to all the emotional and life that swirled around it.
